General Meeting

Topic:Danny has paddled over 800 days in 12 summers in the temperate rainforest of Southeast Alaska, known as the Tongass National Forest. The Tongass is our largest national forest, over 17 million acres with 5.8 million acres of designated wilderness - truly the crown jewel of America’s national forest system. It encompasses mountains and icefields of the continental coast, and about 2,ooo islands known collectively as the Alexander Archipelago. The diversity and numbers of wild animals is like nowhere else in North America - abundant salmon runs provide a strong foundation for the food chain, nurturing healthy populations of humpback whales, brown and black bears, seals and sea lions, 25,000 bald eagles (a quarter of the world population), as well as diverse species of resident and migratory birds. The photographs he shares presents an intact ecosystem, what he consider the best cool water kayaking anywhere, with challenges to match any skill level. The intimacy that kayaking provides allows one to develop a deeper sense of relationship with the rainforest and the ocean, and it is that intimacy which leads him to discover these images.

The meeting will take place at our new location, the Potrero Hill Neighborhood House in San Francisco. The Neighborhood House is located on 953 De Haro Street (Map), near the SF Geneal Hospital. The meeting begins at 7:00pm, and ends around 9:30pm.

Our General meetings are informal, and you don't need to be a BASK member in order to attend. We usually start out with a light supper around 6:30pm, where we socialize and exchange information in a relaxed atmosphere. Bring your favorite food, eating utensil and a plate. We now have access to a kitchen!

Parking: There is no site parking lot, but there is good street parking available.

Planning Meeting

In addition to the General Meetings, we conduct monthly Planning Meetings. During these meetings, we discuss club business, and make plans for new trips and activities. These meetings are usually hosted by a club member and include a potluck dinner. Location, dates and times vary - see the newsletter for more details.
