Questions: Tom Colton, BASK President, tcolton@berkeley.edu

Presentation Description: Rich Luibrand will describe his recent 5-week kayaking expedition with four other BASK members in Alaska's Glacier Bay National Park. With its jaw-dropping scenery, Glacier Bay has a unique allure: glaciers, snow-covered alpine peaks, whales, bears, and birds in abundance. Alaska is a wonderland where the highs are often accompanied by less-pleasant experiences such as biting insects, unforgiving weather, and tidal exchanges that can exceed 24 feet. Still, these annoyances can be minimized with insect repellant, proper clothing, and an attitude that embraces the hard work of carrying heavy kayaks and gear to high ground to keep them from being washed away by a rising tide. The good times seem so much better when you have earned them by enduring the hardships.
Rich Luibrand is a 24-year BASK veteran, former BASK president, and known for outstanding photography.
